Welcome to a journey into history - - - Southern style!
And many thanks to the Sons of Dixie for their musical contribution, "Old Joe Clark" to the Introduction to this site.
Reconstructed Yankee has been out for a few years, but that’s not the end of the story. It’s been scripted for release as the film, Caleb’s Triumph, and Castle Thunder Productions was formed to make it happen.
The treatment for Caleb's Triumph is available for your reading pleasure and the Screenplay and Investor FAQs are available on request.
Although Caleb’s Triumph deals with the sensitive topic of Black Confederate soldiers, its focus is 19th American century racism as a national, and not just a southern, problem. Caleb Parker rises above adversity and tragedy because of the values he embodies and cherishes. He is perseverant, self-reliant, and most of all, heroic. His God-given talent and belief in the value of education embody the intent of Booker T. Washington, who wrote:
"Character is power. Success is not measured by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which a man has to overcome to succeed."
We aren’t a one-trick pony! Last Chance for Freedom is our latest screenplay, which is an alternative history (or a fantasy, if you will) that explores a Confederate victory in 1865 just as the southern armies face their most bleak moment. As a writer, the challenge of this story was to keep it believable. There aren’t any time travelers, special effects or modern day weapons, just a little twist of history and some changes in command decisions - - - with consequences that will make an audience think. As a short story, Last Chance for Freedom has done extremely well. Sold only at reenactments and living history events in the past 18 months, we’re in our fourth short run printing. Readers have enjoyed its diary format as well as its fast pace and unexpected plot developments.
Reconstructed Yankee Reviews!
"Civil War expert Maples tells the fictionalized tale of two North Carolina friends, one white and one black, who fought together during that war. Maples has done scrupulous research, and it shows in this well-written and powerful novel, which will appeal to Civil War buffs and historical fiction readers."Copyright © American Library Association.
