Biography
Jack Maples is an author, historian, and producer specializing in the Southern War for Independence. His studies of 19th century American history have continued for more than 40 years and he has developed particular expertise in Constitutional, economic, and social issues. During the past 7 years, he also has become exceptionally knowledgeable about Black Confederate soldiers.
In 2004, Jack re-published Reconstructed Yankee, the life story of a black Confederate soldier from western North Carolina and his triumphant struggle to overcome racism in both the North and the South.
The Midwest Review observed that Reconstructed Yankee is: "A harrowing and thought provoking insight into individual and societal failings and legacies."
Kathleen Hughes in reviewing the book for the American Library Association wrote: "Maples has done scrupulous research, and it shows in this well-written and powerful novel, which will appeal to Civil War buffs and historical fiction readers."
Encouragement from readers led Jack to write the screenplay Caleb’s Triumph and production is currently in development. This effort led to the development of the script Last Chance for Freedom that also is available as a short story. In 2007, Jack formed Castle Thunder Productions, LLC and began development for production of these screenplays.
